In addition to being a fun way to travel short distances, all-terrain hoverboards are a good way for dirt bike riders to practice balance. There are many hoverboard brands, and in this article we'll take a look at a few of the adult all-terrain hoverboards on the market.

*Note: to avoid repetition, all the hoverboards have auto-bluetooth, lights, are UL2272 certified, and come with a one-year warranty. Razor makes good hoverboards but they currently (2021) don't offer an all-terrain hoverboard, so they're not on the list.

Best hoverboard for heavy adults

The Swagtron Outlaw T6 hoverboard (Amazon) is the latest model in the Swagtron "T" hoverboard series and takes the top spot as the best hoverboard for heavy adults, as well as best overall adult all-terrain hoverboard.

Most adult hoverboards can carry a max weight in the 200-265 pound range, but the Swagtron T6 hoverboard has the ability to carry up to a 420 pound adult. It's also the fastest hoverboard with a top speed of 12 mph, and has the longest range of 12 miles per charge. The T6 can travel up a 30° incline, which is double the average of most hoverboards.

The Outlaw T6 is powered by dual-300 Watt motors, a 42V-2Ah Samsung battery, and can travel up to an hour on a single charge depending on the terrain, riding mode, and rider's weight. The T6 has 10" tubeless air-filled, nylon-reinforced tires which provide good traction, shock absorption, and stability.

There are three riding modes - learning, standard, and advanced, and the T6 starts beeping when the battery is near depletion which is a good thing, especially when riding at 12 mph. If you run out of battery power at that speed, the board will stop but you'll keep going, possibly resulting in a faceplant.

The Outlaw T6 weighs 32 pounds, but the T6 has built-in carry handles that makes it easier to carry, and Swagtron also makes a hoverboard backpack to make it even easier to transport the hoverboard.

Ride Swft Sonic hoverboard

Second place in the heavy duty all-terrain hoverboard for adults category is the Ride Swft Sonic hoverboard, but it earned second place by a fairly small margin. The Sonic hoverboard travels up to 9 mph with an 8 mile range, can carry an adult up to 265 lbs., and can handle inclines up to 12°, which is slightly less than the other hoverboards on this list. The Sonic hoverboard is powered by dual-250 Watt motors, and has a 36V-4Ah battery. The Sonic weighs in at 24 lbs. and has 10" pneumatic all-terrain tires.

The Sonic hoverboard edged out the third place winner because it has 10" pneumatic tires, is four pounds lighter, has a 4Ah battery, and is slightly faster, which is a bit surprising given that it has the smallest motors.

Longtime hoverboard

Rounding out our list of best all-terrain adult hoverboards is the Longtime hoverboard which has a speed of up to 6 mph, a 6 mile range, and can climb 15° inclines. The Longtime hoverboard is powered by dual-350 Watt motors and has a 36v/2.0Ah battery. The Longtime weighs 28 lbs. and although it's been been tested up to 264 pounds, the recommended maximum weight capacity is 200 pounds.

The 8.5" tires on the Longtime hoverboard are made of solid rubber. Even with the dual-350 Watt motors, it was the smaller 8.5" solid rubber tires, slightly less speed, and recommended max weight of 200 lbs. that knocked the Longtime into third place.
